Rates:

Rates are largely dependent on the kind and level of editing needed. I do require a sample of the work to be translated before making a quote. However, here are some general guidelines for my rates:

Proof Reading:

• Grammar

• Punctuation
• Hyphenation
• Word Choice

I also check manuscript formatting, to ensure no layout problems go to the printer.
Cost: $0.01 a word

Basic Copyediting

• Grammar
• Spelling
• Capitalization
• Punctuation
• Hyphenation
• Word Choice
• Suggestions to improve syntax
• Suggestions to improve word choice
• We may recommend light structural changes

I also check manuscript formatting, to ensure no layout problems go to the printer.
Cost: $0.015 a word

Advanced Editing
For special reference or technical books in which particular critical language and/or structure are required:

• Grammar
• Spelling
• Capitalization
• Punctuation
• Hyphenation
• Suggestions to improve syntax
• Suggestions to improve word choice
• We may recommend light structural changes
• Suggestions to improve consistency of information and ideas.
• Suggestions to improve consistency in the characters and/or time line
• Suggestions to improve tone
• Continuity check

I also check manuscript formatting, to ensure no layout problems go to the printer.
Cost: Minimum $0.02 a word

I prefer manuscripts in Word or RTF format. If there is enough time, editing can be done on a hard-copy ofyour work.

Payment Structure

For projects of any size and any degree of copyediting service, the following payment structure is strictly applied after we have discussed editing and payment options:

• 1/3 of projected total in advance, before copyediting or writing begins
• 1/3 of projected total, before second third of the project is completed and delivered
• final amount, upon completion of the project, based on actual time spent on project (this amount may be more or less than the first two payments), paid in advance, before the completed project is delivered
  

If a flat fee for has been negotiated, the same schedule applies: 1/3 up front, 1/3 before the second third of the project is completed, and the final third upon completion, before it is delivered.

Types of Payment Accepted:

For most clients, payment is made directly to my bank account; a certified check or a money order (in US $$ only) is also accepted.
