Palo Alto officials look for long-term solutions following student suicides
Er...
what could be a longer term solution than suicide?
But in the short term?
All the suicides are Gunn students.
Let them go to Paly and learn why life is worth living. ;-)

All that is well and good, but what about the PLANTS? We want to hear more about the PLANTS!

YAF..
Hold the spores of your Equisetaceae....
Plant updates will be coming.
Particularly if I, as seems possible, become the first human being to take care of plants so poorly that I kill an ivy plant.
Really.
How is that possible?

Too much water

I suspect that is the problem.. or, I suspected.. so I re-potted it in a larger pot with better drainage.
How long would the symptoms of drowning last?

Depends. If you managed to suffocate all the root-hairs or if fungus took hold, well, that would make it compost time for Mr. Ivy.
Also, you don't want to over-pot because if the roots don't fill the pot, you end up with the same problem: too much damp soil around too few roots, which causes rot.
